Kastelina castle (KAŠTELINA) 

Kastelina Castle (or Fortress), located close to Vir town, are the ruins of a structure that was built in the 16th century as a defence against Turkish and Uskok forces as well as a place of shelter for local residents. The castle had badly deteriorated over the centuries but in the early 2000s the main tower was carefully restored. 

Located on the west side of the island, Vir lighthouse was originally built in 1881 although was badly destroyed during WWII meaning it was rebuilt in 1950. 


NIN city (11KM from VIR) 

Nin, a small town, a little sleepy lies on the coast of the southern part of the Nin Bay, 17 km north of Zadar.

It boasts numerous proud attributes, such as "the city of glorious past", "the oldest Croatian royal city", "one of the main cultural centers of the early Croatian state", "the seat of the so-called Croatian bishop, whose jurisdiction covered almost all of present-day Croatia," a city with the smallest cathedral in the world ".

There is also the Bishop's Palace and the Church of St. Anselm on the site of the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral with a bell tower and a jewel box, whose collection "Gold and Silver of Nin" is a beautiful small collection of reliquaries from the period from 800 to 1300. You can also see the restored church of St. Anselm. Ambrose from the 10th - 11th century. 

ZADAR city(28KM from VIR)

Zadar - an ancient Mediterranean city and port. The old town on the peninsula, surrounded by walls and towers, is connected to the new building by a bridge, a symbol of the city.

Zadar is a city in Croatian Dalmatia, on the Adriatic coast, 200 km south of Zagreb. In 2011, it had a population of over 75,000 and is the fifth largest Croatian city. It is the administrative center of the county of the same name.

In Zadar there are remains from the time of the Roman government, they are mainly parts of the fortifications, most of which, however, were demolished during the time of Austrian rule. The Roman Forum, the temple and basilica, and many churches and monasteries from the Middle Ages have also been preserved.

The mainland gate (Kopnena vrata, Porta Terraferma) is part of the former fortifications and the main entrance gate to the historic part of the city. Back in the 19th century, it was the only gateway to the city. It was built in the Renaissance style in 1543 by the architect Michele Sanmicheli (1484-1559). It has two small side pedestrian entrances and one large one in the middle. Above it is depicted Saint Krishevan on horseback, which the city has in its emblem. The winged lion of St. Mark, the symbol of the Venetian Republic, is still above. The gate was equipped with a drawbridge, which was canceled in 1875.

Recommended for children from 4 years. Open: from 09:00 until dusk. Kožino is located only 5 minutes north of Zadar. It is a small seaside village, through which there is only one main road. The park is located in a coniferous forest in the center of the village.

Just follow the signs VIR-NIN and upon arrival in the village Kožino signs that mark the park. As soon as you turn off the main road onto the forest road, you have to walk another 300 meters and on the right you will find an adventure park. In front of the park is a parking lot where you can park your car comfortably and for free. The temperature is always pleasant in this coniferous forest, so you can visit the park at any time during the day.

VRANSKO JEZERO 

(60KM from VIR) 

Vranske Lake is a protected landscape area stretching around Vrana Lake, which is the largest Croatian lake. Originally a freshwater lake, it is now connected to the sea by the Prosika canal, and both freshwater and marine fish such as pike carp and eels live in this Basque water.

The number of fish makes the area an attraction for fishermen, who just need to buy a one-day or multi-day fishing license for fishing. The lake attracts sports-minded tourists by a 36 km long cycle path, which they can also extend to more distant views of the surrounding countryside, such as the Kamenjak viewpoint.

The Nature Park includes the Vrana Lake Ornithological Reserve, which is located on the northwestern shore of Lake Vrana and houses a total of 241 species of birds, where many different water birds nest on the swampy shores of the lake.

NATIONAL PARK PAKLENICA (70KM from VIR) 

Paklenica National Park is located in the southeastern part of the Velebit Mountains and forms a massive rock wall above the Velebit Channel, rising to a height of almost 1800 meters.

The park itself occupies an area of ​​3657 hectares, forming a circle with the entrance to the village Marasoviči. Two monumental canyons, Velika and Mala Paklenica, are cut into the mountain massif, really reminiscent of hell.

Routes through mountainous terrain, with cliffs over 400 meters high, winding through rock plates, or meanders of shady paths next to falling waterfalls, with an ever-changing panorama that is greener than you could imagine. The best time to visit is May, June or September, as in summer the area without water becomes more of a suffering.

The best starting point is Stari Grad-Paklenica, 45 km from Zadar. You will also find a national park office here. It is located 2 km from the entrance to the national park in the village Marasoviči, where there is a parking lot behind the reception. Here you can get all the information, including the guide. NATIONAL PARK KRKA 

(95KM from VIR) 

.The Croatian Krka National Park is a system of rapids, cascades and waterfalls, under which you can swim. It is also possible to take a boat trip through the canyon of the river Krka to the Roški waterfall - Roški slap and to the island of Visovac, where the Franciscan monastery and museum are located. The turnoff to the Krka National Park is on the highway in front of Šibenik. This wonderful place is recommended by the majority of clients

NATIONAL PARK KORNATI 

(100KM from VIR)

The Kornati archipelago consists of 149 islands, islets and reefs spread over an area of ​​320 m2, between the island of Dugi otok in the northwest, the island of Žirje in the southeast and the islands of Pašman, Vrgada and Murter in the north and northeast. Limestone islands have no springs or watercourses. Vegetation is very sparse due to the uneven distribution of precipitation and temperatures in summer. The sea around Kornati is one of the richest fishing areas.

Kornati National Park includes 89 islands, islets and reefs, which include 2/3 of the Kornati archipelago. The area was declared a national park in 1980 due to geomorphological characteristics, diversity of marine life and other natural wonders. The park has a scientific, cultural, educational and recreational function. Tourism and recreation are limited, tours and accommodation must follow the rules of the national park. There was not yet a permanent settlement in the park, but there are settlements. The locals inhabit them only during the harvest season. Many residents rent their houses for longer periods. There are several seasonal hotels in Kornati. Visitors arriving by boat must enter the park via Vrata from the Abbey Strait to the reception in Špraljin stan. The winds are not unpleasant or dangerous in the park, but some attention pays off when approaching the park. Sailors must keep an eye on rocky cliffs and shoals, which are sometimes difficult to find. During the summer, a high number of visitors overcrowding well-protected bays becomes a problem. The sea is often very deep for anchoring. A night cruise is not recommended under any circumstances.

PLITVICE LAKES 

(148KM  from VIR) 

Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most visited places in Croatia.

It is located on the upper reaches of the Korana River between the Velká and Malá Kapela and Pleševica mountain limestone massifs. It is a unique lake ecosystem connected by a series of waterfalls and cascades. The park was founded in 1949 and thirty years later, the site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The area of less than 30,000 hectares is surrounded by wooded hills, sixteen turquoise lakes, 140 waterfalls and 20 caves.

In the spring of 1991, the park became the site of a bloody Easter battle that claimed casualties during the first military conflict in the former Yugoslav civil war. A more pleasant event here was the shooting of famous scenes from films about Vinnetou (eg Treasure on Silver Lake).
